CNG Grand Opening and Visit from Gov. John Hickenlooper

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper visited RFTA’s Glenwood Springs maintenance facility Wednesday, March 6th for the grand opening of the new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station.

Speaking in front of a crowd of Roaring Fork Valley elected officials, business leaders and RFTA employee’s, Hickenlooper praised RFTA’s decision to use CNG and stated it as a move in the right direction for the nation’s energy future.

“What you guys are doing is ground-breaking in every sense of the word,” said Hickenlooper. The Governor also applauded RFTA for implementing the nation’s first rural bus rapid transit (BRT) system, VelociRFTA.

Both RFTA’s CEO, Dan Blankenship and Gov. Hickenlooper commented to the decision to use CNG as a move in the right direction.  They also both addressed the desire, especially in this region, for energy producers to be responsible in drilling for natural gas.

RFTA’s CNG fueling station is currently and successfully fueling four CNG buses owned by RFTA that were delivered in late January. Additionally, 18 more CNG buses will be delivered in July and branded with VelociRFTA.
